Should I be worried????
We had an enquiry this week from a landlord who discovered woodworm attack to the rafters of his btl property. He was concerned about the extensive flight holes and called us out for an expert opinion on the state of the timbers. After carrying out our survey we concluded that he need not worry! there was insect attack, but not was he thought. It was infact an attack from ernobiuos mollis aka bark borer. These insects are know to only attack the bark of timber and will not cause structural damage or infest the timber further than the bark. What’s the remedial treatment??? Remove the bark which in this case was almost all fallen off by now.
Although nothing to worry about this time the landlord done the right thing by calling us out. Its best to be safe than sorry as woodworm and any other damp issues can have a very detrimental affect on any property. When it comes to damp issues, ignorance certainly is not bliss.
Don’t wait till its dries out, dont ignore issues.. if something doesnt seem right, call us out. We are always here to help
